Individual Psychotherapy

A range of evidence based treatments are available for various presenting issues. My therapeutic orientation is primarily grounded in cognitive-behavioural therapies [i.e., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT-informed)].

General Intake Assessment

At the start our therapy together, you will complete a general intake assessment that typically involves an intake interview and filling out online self-report questionnaires. You can expect that the first 1-2 sessions will be assessment oriented. By the end of the assessment, I will provide you with feedback about any diagnostic impressions, an understanding of biological, psychological, and social factors that have contributed to and maintain your current problem(s), and offer evidence based treatment recommendations. The number of sessions, frequency of sessions, and the length of your treatment is related to several factors including, the severity and complexity of your difficulties as well as your motivation for change and commitment to therapy. If results of the assessment indicate a need for therapeutic interventions other than those offered by me, I will suggest an appropriate referral to other services.

Psychodiagnostic Assessment

The purpose of a psychodiagnostic assessment is to identify the existence of mental health disorders. This type of assessment is more lengthy and comprehensive than a general intake assessment. This type of assessment is helpful for those who are wanting to know whether they meet diagnostic criteria for a mental illness or are seeking clarification of a diagnosis. This could help if you are working with a treating psychiatrist or family physician. It could also be helpful with treatment planning and assisting in the development of work accommodations.
A psychodiagnostic assessment consists of:
  • A semi-structured clinical interview that will include a discussion about your history, symptoms, and functioning.
  • Completion and review of self-report symptom measures
  • A feedback session that will provide you with mental health diagnoses and treatment recommendations
  • A detailed psychological report that includes a summary of the assessment findings and treatment recommendations
  • Consultation with your other health providers to help support your treatment needs and goals
